  • President & CEO, Rackable Systems
  • Advisory Role: Technology & Market Strategy

20-year technology industry veteran, Mark Barrenechea, was named President and CEO of Rackable Systems (NASDAQ: RACK) in April 2007, after joining the company's Board of Directors in November 2006.

Prior to this position, Mr. Barrenechea served as Executive Vice President and CTO for Computer Associates, reporting directly to CEO, John Swainson. He managed products that contributed more than $3.5 billion in annual billings while overseeing a staff of 5,000 engineers. He played a key role in CA's $2 billion acquisition strategy, including the acquisitions of Netegrity, PestPetrol, Niku, iLumin, Concord, Aprisma, Wily Technologies and Cybermation.

Previously, he was Senior Vice President of Applications Development for Oracle Corporation; a member of the distinguished executive management committee with direct report to CEO, Larry Ellison. He managed the CRM Applications Divisions at Oracle and helped transition Oracle from "best of breed" applications to its integrated Release 11 applications suite while managing a multi-thousand person global team.

Among the other key executive positions held by Mr. Barrenechea was Vice President of Development at Scopus—a technology provider for customer service call centers. Joining the company in its early stages, he helped Scopus to define and lead the emerging customer relationship management (CRM) market. He helped manage Scopus through its successful IPO and to its ultimate acquisition by Siebel in 1998. He also was Vice President of Development at Tesseract (a carve-out from Prudential), where he reshaped the company's line of human capital management products. Working closely with the management team, he helped to change the direction of the company resulting in the successful acquisition of Tesseract by Ceridean.

Mr. Barrenechea has served on the Boards of Directors for Overland Storage (NASDAQ: OVRL), Ingres Corporation and Avaki (Polaris Capital).

Mr. Barrenechea is the author of two books, eBusiness or Out of Business (McGraw-Hill 2001) and Software Rules (McGraw-Hill 2002). He has been a featured speaker at conferences held by Goldman Sachs, Pacific Crest, Reuters, The Deal and Prudential.
